As an only child and a young girl who grew up traveling around the United States with my single mom in her beat up Chevy Citation,
I found the world vast and beautiful… but sometimes we got stuck on the side of the road and had to be uniquely creative to find our way out of it. That has been my modus operandi ever since. Curiosity and love for it all, finding a way through because really, what’s the alternative? You can’t just sit on the side of the road. Always my starting point whether I’m voicing a campaign to fight hate for Boy’s Town, or writing and producing an award winning short about two extremely different people finding “together” even as the world pulls them apart.
My life has always been contradictions… accepted to the prestigious Boston Conservatory only to find out my dad spent my college fund. Finding a way, messy and layered, but getting there. Being white and young in the theater world, and seeing the privilege that gave me while being the poorest girl in the class and scrounging secretly for coins on the ground to buy a slice of pizza. And now as an adult grounded in the success of not just myself but all those around me, I use where I came from to make sure I bring to the table that same curiosity and creativity to find the best way through… or at least one that’s interesting.
